CARE

Every piece from The Third Vault is designed to endure — but endurance begins with care. The materials we choose are natural: living, reactive, and shaped by the environments from which they come. Over time, their surfaces will record the quiet evidence of wear — a patina that reflects both age and attention. Proper care slows that evolution, preserving brilliance without erasing character.

Jewelry should be stored thoughtfully, worn consciously, and handled with the same respect given to its making. Below, find specific guidance for pieces set with pearls, stones, or a combination of both. Each requires a slightly different approach, but all share the same principle: care as a continuation of craft.

Pieces with Pearls

Pearls are living surfaces — organic, porous, and responsive to the world around them. They should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, or any chemical cleanser, as these can dull their luster. Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear to remove natural oils and store away from harder stones or metals that may scratch the nacre. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or polishing solutions; pearls require only patience and a light hand to retain their natural radiance.

Pieces with Stones

Gemstones are formed under immense pressure and heat, but their surfaces remain vulnerable to modern wear. Clean occasionally with a soft cloth or mild soap and water, drying thoroughly before storing. Keep each piece separate to prevent scratching, particularly among stones of differing hardness. Avoid extreme temperature changes, prolonged sun exposure, or contact with harsh chemicals. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as these can fracture or loosen certain settings. With thoughtful care, the stones will maintain their clarity and color for generations.

Mixed Materials (Pearls and Stones)

Pieces that combine pearls and stones require particular attention — each material responds differently to light, heat, and moisture. Avoid direct contact with perfume, lotion, or household cleaners, which can erode both gemstone polish and pearl nacre. After wearing, wipe gently with a soft cloth to remove oils and store in a dry place, away from humidity and harder jewelry. Clean only with mild soap and cool water when necessary, ensuring the piece is fully dry before storing. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as vibration and heat can damage both pearls and delicate stone settings. With considered care, each surface will retain its integrity — luminous, faceted, and enduring.
